Breweries Ltd (SBL) operates exclusively in Tanzania and is the 2nd
largest beer company with a market share of 25%. SBL is a subsidiary of
East Africa Breweries Ltd (EABL) – which is in turn partly owned by one
of the world’s biggest alcoholic beverage companies, Diageo. The company
is an integrated demand/supply business with 3 operational breweries in
Dar Es Salaam, Mwanza, and a third one in Moshi, which is situated in
the northern part of the country near the Kenyan border. SBL’s flagship
brand is Premium Serengeti lager, which accounts for 50% of SBL sales
volumes. The other beer brands are Tusker, Guinness, Tusker Malt, Kick
and Pilsner.
SBL
has 3 fully operational breweries in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Moshi
with a combined capacity of 1.3m Hls. Moshi has a capacity of c600khls
per annum and a scope to expand to more than 1 million in F14.
Market Complexity:SBL
operates in a competitive environment and in a vast geography. The main
player in the beer industry is Tanzania Breweries Ltd. (TBL), a
subsidiary of SABMiller, who until recently were a third party
manufacturer of EABL brands Tusker, Pilsner and Guinness. As a result of
the cessation of the agreement between TBL and EABL, there is
heightened competitive activity in that market.
Leadership Responsibilities:Oversee
a team of advisors, according to the new organizational structure. Also
work with the heads of functions in Demand to achieve the business
goals.
Purpose of Role:•
The Business Partner will lead and manage the end- to-end People and
Organisation Effectiveness to positively impact business performance at
SBL.
•
With the upcoming integration this role will play a critical part in
driving the change agenda across the business that will ensure a smooth
transition of SBL into EABL.
Top 3-5Accountabilities•
Partner with the SBL Management team to develop and achieve the people
and talent plans taking into account local and regional market
priorities and the global HR priorities. This will include talent
strategy and review, succession planning, organisation change etc,
ensuring we have the right talent in place for now and the future
•
Define, communicate and action specific HR programmes and capability
requirements for SBL, embedding core frameworks and processes such as
the, Diageo Capabilities and Leadership Standards, People Manager
Development Framework, P4G, BPC and coaching line managers to deliver on
their people commitments.

Coach and support leadership teams and line managers on appropriate
engagement and reward/recognition/retention strategies to achieve our
engagement targets and drive business performance.
•
Own and drive the change agenda and build change capability within the
business to ensure smooth transition post integration of SBL into EABL.
• Role model the Diageo Values and set standards in the area of leadership through their personal behaviour and coaching.
•
As a member of the EABL HR Leadership team champion specific projects /
activities and take an active role in coaching and developing members
of the HR team.
Qualifications and Experience Required:• Degree in a relevant field
• Strong functional HR or people management experience
•
Experience of change management or good understanding of the change
mechanisms and ability to work effectively cross-functionally
• Proven ability to influence, persuade, facilitate and build credibility at all levels within the business
• Broad awareness, understanding and empathy with the talent, reward and organisation effectiveness agenda
• Excellent coaching and relationship building skills with a track record as a valued coach
